Summer Projects & Outreach

Epic builds bridges between our in-school programs and our work Off-Broadway through various after-school and summer projects, including:

  • EMERGENCY RESPONSE: Following Hurricane Katrina, Epic worked with SAVE THE CHILDREN to build a theatre program that united student evacuees from New Orleans with students from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
  • EPIC SUMMER INSTITUTE: Student representatives from our partner schools join our professional company to learn new acting and writing skills while creating and rehearsing a play that asks socio-political questions.  The final performance features 50 students from seven of Epic’s partner schools alongside Epic’s professional artists at a professional venue.
  • N.I.L.P.: Epic partners with the Northeast Independent Living Program in Lawrence, MA to bring socially-minded theatre to teenagers, who use wheelchairs, are cognitively disabled or are deaf.  Four students from the High School Epic co-founded in the Bronx act as Peer Leaders of the project.
