This production of PASSION PLAY was the culmination of a six year conversation with Sarah Ruhl about staging her wildly imaginative and powerful triptych in a way that echoes the historic passion pageants, but updated for 21st Century NYC. Epic was thrilled to partner with a COALITION of creative thinkers, art makers, academic institutions, and Fort Greene community members to create a SURROUND FESTIVAL with fun and fascinating events and activities that range from dance parties, concerts, and free food, to family workshops, new play readings, and Forum Discussions. We celebrated community, investigated the role of artists in our society, and explored together what we believe in, what we’re devoted to, and what transforms us.
